The Hum of the Bees - Card

I wanted to show off this Cuttlebug embossing folder - I brought the set in because I love the bees!

These are the eensy, weensy blossoms from the Spellbinders Whimsy die set.  I popped the pearls into the middle of the blossom as well as nestling the slightly larger ones around the outside.

Card Synthesis:
I used the blending tool with the Distress Ink to colour the backs of the flower diecuts as the paper is single sided.  I love the little tiny flower from the Whimsy set. (But what really attracted me to the Whimsy set was that butterfly which I will use in something else soon!)
I chose Distress Tea Dye for shading the bee embossed paper, because it had that tinge of orange-peach which went with the paper.
Archival Ink was used to stamp the sentiment.

Find Yourself a Cup - Card

I've had this little pile of Kanban paper lying around for months, meaning to make a card to show off what amazing paper this is.  I think Kim Prince's recent creation using brown tipped me over the edge!  Seeing her card and dealing with the frustrations of a new computer sent me to the drafting table.  And then when I was frustrated with the way the card was developing, I went back to the computer frustrations!
I was pretty pleased with the way this card turned out.  The bow really finished it well. (Thank you Becca Feeken and her Bow Maker!)

Kanban Paper is wonderfully thick cardstock - rich and elegant.

There are two sets of diecuts available on the site, Afternoon Cuppa and Coffee Shop Delights  and I chose Afternoon Cuppa for this card. Kanban has absolutely wonderful browns that coordinate so beautifully.

Synthesis:

I used a few different sheets of Kanban paper, besides the diecuts.  And I went for the combination of Spellbinders Labels 20 and Floral Ovals that I used with some success recently.  I also got to add in the Romantic Rectangles, too! I highly recommend adding wax paper to your sandwich when diecutting intricate dies.  I used my awl quite a lot to poke out the little bitties. 

I pulled the pink into the Label 20 diecut by blending the Distress Inks listed below with the Foam Blending Tool.  If you use at least two colours (one after the other, not at the same time!) you get more depth. You can click on the images below to see them a bit larger.

This bow is the double-tailed bow - directions are on the DVD that comes with the Becca Bow Maker.  Nice, huh?

Glitter Rolodex Swap 2012

I love my Rolodex!  Nope, don't have any contacts in it, just great art - which is, I suppose, a connection to great people.
When Robyn Josephs suggested a Rolodex Glitter Swap, I was all in. Here is my offering.

I am not a glitter gal, but I sure had fun with this!  Not to mention my space is covered in little stars from the Spellbinders Star Circles die.  It's like a little bit of the sky fallen just for me! (and my vacuum....)

I really set out to feature this embossing folder from Crafts-Too because I think it's gorgeous.  And then I kind of covered it up!

Just for You Card

I really love the new Memory Box dies.  Many of them are very fine and delicate and I really wanted to show this one off without a lot of "clutter" around it.  I'm not quite sure I succeeded!

Card Synthesis
The bow was created with the Becca Bow Maker.It's so fast and easy to make bow with that baby!! I originally wanted to put the box under the Floral Square die cut, but it looked so cute along the side, that I caved.  I was going to use a diecut for the quote, but they all seemed too large, so I just cut and stacked rectangles.

Into the Unknown - Wheresoever You Go - for Mich

Excuse this digression....
When I left home and went off to school, it was a bus-ferry-bus/5hour trip home.  I came home lots of weekends and every summer till I graduated, and even then was only an hour drive from "home".  I think it was an easy transition for both me and my parents.

Today our youngest left to find work in Alberta.  He's headed for Edmonton, 1200km from here, in his 20 year old Volkswagen Corrado.  All week I've felt like I've been on a rollercoast headed for a cliff.  I rolled off that cliff this morning at 6 a.m.
Almost too late, I thought that maybe I should make him a card.  Of course this quote crossed my mind...

But I thought that might be a little heavy.  He was already nervous!  So I went for this:

Mich (pronounced Meesh - he's Michel Antoine - Daddy is French-Canadian) is a born button-poker and loves anything with wheels, so Tim Holtz came to the rescue for my card creation.  On the inside I wrote "And your TimCard" and gave him a pre-loaded (and re-loadable online by me, thanks Mom!) Tim Horton's gift card.

I haven't had a text or phone call yet (yeah, okay, I know, it's only been 7 hours!).  I guess that's a good sign.  1200km isn't very close.  Thank goodness there are direct flights from here to there.

Halloween 2011 - he's humouring me!

When I left home, I had a concrete set of plans till I finished school.  Although he has been promised a job when he gets there, he really is jumping into the unknown. I would never have done that and I applaud him.  He wants to get a job, make money and be able to put money on my TimCard! 

I celebrate Mich's uniqueness, his humour, his love for his friends, his ability to survive the deep difficulties school threw at him and his drive to succeed in spite of those difficulties.

Who knows?  He might be back in a month. He knows the door is always open.  Although his room may have shrunk considerably, as his brother is tweaking the floor plan for his move into Mich's much larger bedroom....

Mich turns 19 on July 1.  My Canada Day baby.
