Snowbirds 2011

You'll have to forgive me this little digression.

Every year the Snowbirds practice for three weeks in my backyard.  Almost literally.  This morning I tramped off to the local beach in the rain and hail assuming they'd do one fly-by and their annual show would be over due to the extremely low ceiling.  Well we got a bit more than that!  Yippee!  I love these things!  I have no desire to fly them, although I've been known to jump out of a Cessna or two....  (I like to say I've taken off 7 more times than I've landed in an airplane)  All these photos were taken today except for the one of #6 which was taken off our back deck a few days ago. The single gray aircraft is a F-18 Hornet and I couldn't believe I could see the pilots in my photo.  I mean they were close, but not *that* close.
And I'd just like to say.  Yay Nikon!  I've never had a camera like this.  fyi: it's an 18-105 lens.

  9. Amazing photos, you really need to find their site and submit your photos to them. They are the BEST.

And, jumping out of airplanes is just amazing too. Beats me, I have white water rafted on the Colorado, but you have 'one-upped' me on that.
