Give a Little Cup of Love

One of my newest designs on the Silhouette Online Store is the Gift Card Envelope with Coffee Cup Display.  My original thought was to make it as a Father's Day gift, but then I remembered being in a Starbucks while on holiday and we were behind a woman who was riffling though a stack of gift  cards before she chose one.  When we chuckled and teased her, we discovered she was a teacher who would frequently be gifted with coffee cards by her students! Sure beats an apple if you ask me!

So yes, when I had this design idea, I drove off to Starbucks to get a coffee and disassemble the cup and sleeve to use as templates (not as easy as you might think!) and then proceeded to tweak.  Keep in mind this is a display cup, there is no bottom so you can't fill it with liquid!  It's just a little cup, not a full size one.

When you open the file, ungroup and pull most of the elements off the cutting mat.  The envelope and backing will stay together and have to be ungouped again.

Cut each element one by one in the colour you wish to use.  I would have used a white cup, but that's really hard to photograph and Silhouette wants perfectly white backgrounds.  lol! Where's the cup?

Here is a side view.

When making the cup and sleeve, you just have to be a bit careful the cup doesn't "squish".  The slits for the card make it want to fold rather than roll, so give it a few practice-rolls.
And here is the inside of the gift card envelope.

Nice Starbucks card, you say?  It's the most beautiful one I've seen - and we got it in Hawaii and keep reloading it.  It raises eyebrows in non-Hawaii Starbucks outlets!

Hope you have fun with this design!  We'd love to see photos on our FaceBook Page!

Papillon Monarch Circle in action!

Oh, my! The gardens are so exquisite here right now.  My husband brought these peonies in (and left the ants outside, I hope) and I had to do something with them!

This is the papillon monarch circle available on the Silhouette Online store this week.

I just cut the circle (I slowed the cutting speed) using my Silhouette Cameo and lay the design on the table.  The single monarch has a Glue Dot to hold it onto the petal!  I can use both over and over.  It just doesn't get much more simple!

Thanks for having a look!  Hope you're having a sweet day!

Painting in the T : Thanks - Fill 'er Up T

When I challenged to the Design Team to share their creative talents by filling up the T in the new stamp set, I knew exactly what I wanted to do!  A "landscape". Yeah, I know, kinda weird.....

Supplies:
Thanks - Fill 'er Up T - now available with the cling & foam option!
Stonehenge Paper
Brilliance Galaxy Gold Stamp Pad
Queen's Gold Embossing Powder
W&N French Ultramarine Blue Watercolour
W&N Raw Sienna Watercolour
Spellbinders Valiant Honor die set
Spellbinders Grand Calibur
American Crafts Winter Cardstock Pad
Be Creative Tape, Pop Dots

Instructions:
  1. Cut Stonehenge to 10" x 7" with the deckle edge along the 7" side.  Fold into a 5" x 7" card. Cut light blue cardstock to 4 1/8" x 5 1/2" rectangle and cut dark blue cardstock to 4 3/8" x 5 5/8" rectangle.
  2. Stamp Thanks - Fill 'er Up T on to a piece of Stonehenge. (Stonehenge was chosen because it is smooth for stamping onto, but acts a lot like watercolour paper.) Thermal emboss with Queen's Gold embossing powder.
  3. Paint your landscape.  French Ultramarine Blue and Raw Sienna make an incredible range of colours when mixed.
  4. Center your painted design inside the largest Valiant Honor rectangle and use the Grand Calibur to die cut and emboss.
  5. Use Pop Dots to mat to light blue cardstock rectangle and Be Creative Tape to mat to dark blue cardstock rectangle. Adhere to card base using Be Creative Tape.

Illuminations Illuminated!

As you probably read about Illuminations on the Quietfire Creations blog, traditionally illuminated letters were gilded.  Today I've added a lot of contemporary techniques to a very old tradition!

Here is how I did this card. Thumbnail links to the products are below.

  1. Cut and fold white cardstock to 5x5" sidefold card.
  2. Using VersaMagic Sage, stamp Morris leaves Illuminations onto vellum.  Allow to dry.
  3. Flip vellum over and use stamp positioner to center Capital Letter over Illuminations and stamp Capital Letter with Brilliance Galaxy Gold.  Emboss with Queen's Gold Embossing Powder.
  4. Die cut vellum with Spellbinders Decorative Labels 1 die.
  5. Mount vellum on card front using Scrapbook Adhesives Butterfly 3D Foam shapes.

Although not as smooth as I'd like, it makes a pretty good gilded letter!
