Happy Birthday Card with a Bookbinding Embellishment

I hardly ever think of book corners for cards! Here I've featured the new Spellbinders Celebra'tions Doily Art Embossing folder and Quietfire Scalloped Book corners. I *needed*(!) to use the new Doily Art embossing folder!!

Instructions (supply list below)

1. Form a 4 1/4" x 5 1/4" card base from #110 Solar White cardstock.
2. Emboss the Doily Art using minty cardstock and trim so only the doily portion of the embossing remains. Score the embossed image in half and slit the spine for about 1/4" along the spine, right in the middle. Crimp Silver Scalloped book corners to the corners using pliers.
3. Tie floppy bow with white wrinkled ribbon (approximately 2 yards) and thread the ends through the slot in the spine of the embossed image.  Secure the ends with tape.
4. Stamp the smaller Quietfire Design Happy Birthday using Turquoise Gem on #80 Solar White cardstock.
5. Die cut sentiment with the smallest label in Spellbinders Romantic Rectangles Two and sponge the edges with more Turquoise Gem ink.
6. Adhere Pop Dots to the back of the embossing and mount on the white card base allowing the embossed image to extend about 1/4" from the spine of the white card base.
7. Adhere stamped die cut onto embossed image using Mini Glue Dots.

Marie's Tombow Bird Challenge

I just couldn't resist this challenge.  The Elizabeth Craft birdies have just come in and although I have other plans for them, I knew I could put them to use right away for Marie's Bird Challenge over on the Tombow blog!  If you haven't seen Marie Brownings birdie art, you really must click on the link and have a look.  It's completely awesome!

There is still time to enter, so go for it!  You must have a birdie somewhere!

So here is my little offering for that challenge.  I wanted to put the birdies on a background frame and ending up designing my own.  I wanted simple, but not too simple.

I really like the effect I get when I blend Tombow Dual Brush Pens with a waterbrush on Stonehenge paper.  Although Stonehenge was designed as a printmaking paper, it stands up to being wet and you can letter on it, too.

Instructions:

1. Cut a 5" x 10" piece of Classic Crest 110lb cardstock, score and fold in half to create the card base.
2. Use Birds 709 to cut 2 birds from Stonehenge.
3. Use Tombow Dual Brush Markers (colours listed below) to add colour then blend colour using a water brush.  Allow to dry.
4. Cut Knobby Frame elements from Neenah Classic Crest 80lb cardstock and Coredinations cardstock using the Silhouette Cameo (cutting file should be on the Silhouette Online Store later today).
5. With the aid of a stamp positioner, use Purple Hydrangea ink to stamp Each of Us has a Song in the center of  the white frame and mat to the purple frame using the Stamp Runner.
6. Use 3D Foam Tabs to mount the birdies facing the quotation as shown. (Tombow has tiny little 3D Foam tabs that are perfect for mounting the little birdies!  I think they're going to be my favourite soon!)  Use 3D Foam Tabs to mount the Knobby Frame to the card base.

Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko Ornament Exchange Received!

So told you about the Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko ornament that I created (see it here) whose recipient is different than the person you receive from.  Well this is the very cool one I received. 

 

The only thing that was inside with it was John Creighton Peterson's business card, so I guess he had a hand in making it!  Thanks so much John.  See you at CHA!It arrived flat and then fanned out.

So pretty!

Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko Ornament Swap

When Imagine Crafts organized an ornament exchange, I though I can do this!  And then I didn't know where to start.  With many starts and stops here is what ultimately came about.

I used my Silhouette designs for both the ball and the wreath elements, but you may have Spellbinders dies that would do the same thing!  I laid the wreath bits out this way:

I used five colours of cardstock and cut:
light green: 6 x 4.5" (broad leaves)
dark green:  6 x 6"  (1 pine sprig and 2 holly)
brown:  6 x 5"  (3 twigs)
white: 6 x 3.5"  (3 berries)
red:  6 x 4"  (flourish)

Lay the cardstock on the cutting mat in position for cutting the elements as shown above.  As it turns out, I didn't use all the elements, but how you design yours may be completely different!
I cut the plain ball ornament, first resizing it to 5.43" tall and 4.24" wide.

Love is What's In the Room was stamped on the ball using VersaFine Crimson. Brilliance Pearlescent Thyme and Versamagic Hint of Pesto were blended around the edges of the ball. If you want a more vintage look, try Memento Pistachio and Toffee.

I applied Snow-Tex on the edges of the holly and pine leaves with a Spatula and spritzed the other elements with Goosebumps Texture Spray.

The wreath elements were bent and arranged around the edges of the ball and adhered with glue dots which I can reposition if I really don't like their placement!
I used a regular round paper punch to make red cardstock berries to add a little colour.

 

Because I thought the back was rather boring, I attached the flourished ball and thought it was fun to see that if the ornament was backlit, the flourish showed through! Cool! That was an unexpected bonus.

 

The final touch was choosing just the right ribbon as a hanger!  Both are from May Arts.
