Butterfly Framed Happy Birthday Card

Here is a sweet card I assembled using the elegant butterfly frame card that is in the Silhouette online store.

Elegant Butterfly frame card

Even without the extra butterflies, it's a really nice frame and can be made in all sorts of colour combinations! The card, frame and butterflies are all part of the cutting design and was cut with the Silhouette Cameo.

I combined Michaels Recollections cardstock and Graphic 45 patterned paper for this card.

I used Pop Dots under the frame mat and Mini Glue Dots to hold on the butterflies.

The stamp is from Happy Family Days and was stamped with VersaMagic Malted Mauve.

Thanks for stopping in and having a look!

Celebra'tions with Spellbinders and Quietfire

Celebra'tions Sweet Treats set

I spent a fun afternoon playing with some of the new Spellbinders Celebra'tion line!  There is no question this collection is happy!  The bright colours are completely awesome!  The solid cardstock is 80lb and coordinates with the lighter weight printed cardstock.  Easy peasy to coordinate and you won't spend hours on your project but you have the great satisfaction of having made it yourself!

Instructions: (supply list below)
  1. Stamp polka dotted tag design (included in the set) onto white cardstock with Celebra'tions Odacious Orange
  2. Stamp Quietfire sentiment onto tag.
  3. Die cut the stamped tag using the corresponding die and die cut one tag from the Pretty Plum Cardstock.
  4. Stamp the flower onto the backs of the Celebra'tions patterned paper and one onto white cardstock. Cut out each flower by hand and using whichever side has the funnest colour, attach threaded buttons with Glue Dots.
  5. Cut slit along spine of Cardblank, thread twine through it and wrap around card front several times and tie in a bow.
  6. Attach flowers to card front as shown using Glue Dots. Give to a friend!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Birthday - Guy Style with DCWV

As I wandered around CHA, I knew I had to visit the Die Cuts With a View booth.  They always have a big walk-in booth that must take up a convention block!  But I wasn't distracted by a huge elephant this year.... too bad, it was amazing.  Instead, as primarily a cardmaker, I was drawn to their 6x6 Paper Stack pads of paper.  These weren't any papers, these were specialty papers.  Pads of gauze paper, burlap paper, cork paper, glitter paper.  These were really nice textural contrasts to the quick convenience papers I usually use.  It was quiet in the booth, so I was bold and asked if I could get a few samples.  They said they would send me some.  I expected a document size envelope with some bits and pieces inside.

What I got was this! It was like Christmas and I felt a bit embarrassed by their generosity. These are all 12x12.  I have already ordered some of the 6x6 pad for the site and they should be in within the next week.

You can see the DCWV catalog here.

I had a guy birthday card to make, so I rummaged through all the papers - and they were wonderful. I considered the burlap or chalkboard, but ultimately went with the cork.  Combining the cork and burlap was part of the plan, but I didn't think they did anything for each other, so I went with the plain and printed cork sheets.

Here is the card again.

Instructions (see thumbnail product links at the bottom of the page)

  • Cut 6 5/8" x 4.75" rectangle of plain cork.
  • Cut 6 3/8" x 4 3/8" rectangle painted cork.
  • Use Spellbinders Labels 2 (or other plain Spellbinders Labels) to cut larger cork shape.
  • Using VersaMagic Jumbo Java, stamp Quietfire sentiment.  Die cut sentiment with Spellbinders Labels die.
  • Sponge Jumbo Java ink around the edges of each die cut and the painted cork rectangle.
  • Cut a 4 inch piece of ribbon (I used Twill with Chevron Stripes, 3/4" in Champagne to compliment the chevron stripes in the paper), angle the ends and fold in half.  Staple to side of sentiment shape.
  • Use Double-sided tape to adhere the bottom panel to the card and then use Pop Dots to add subsequent layers as shown in photograph.

I hope you enjoy reading about my little CHA adventure and the card.  It's really very simple!
A big THANKS to DCWV!
Happy Creating! Suzanne

New Stamps!

Oh, my! I am remiss not posting here about the new stamps!

But first let me share a link with you over to Quietfire Creations where you can see my first project done with the new stamps.

And now here are the new stamps!
We've introduced the new Quietfire Companions, so you have a quote for the front of your card and a sentiment for the inside.  (pssst!  Those in the know refer to them as Innies and Outies!)  Of course you don't always have to use them together!

And at last we have a classic Italic Happy Birthday and Anniversary.  I've procrastinated for years about those.  The word happy is not a calligrapher's favourite.  If only the saying was Birthday Happy, calligraphers would be in heaven.  As it is, all those descenders that are crying for flourishing must be tamed when they are on top!  I have cope the best I can, especially when this lettering comes back to haunt me for years!!

The Design Team and I were "talking" one day about dark humour and Robyn Josephs fires back "My dark side is chocolate". I laughed all the way to the drafting table!  It made a great match for a "I know you want that cookie" which I've been wanting to do forever.  Cookies always talk to me.  That's why I *try* not to have any in the house.....
We do not remember days was a request from Designer Sharon Reinhart.  She wanted to be able to use part of the quote on the outside of a card and part on the inside.  And really, I think that was how the Quietfire Companions came about.  Thanks to Sharon for sparking that fire so quietly! (So quietly, she didn't know she'd done it)

Also new is a set to coordinate with Spellbinders™ Labels One die set!  Our Happy Family Days stamp set has a calligraphic frame stamp which can be a home to four different stamps.
